Moss on Hard Surfaces
What is Moss?
Moss is unusual in that it doesn't have a root system that anchors it to the ground. It spreads in a green mass across damp surfaces and relies on the dispersal of its spores by wind or water in order to reproduce.
Moss on Hard Surfaces
Moss can become a persistent problem when it
colonises on hard surfaces such as patios, paths, roofs, and walls. It thrives in damp, shady and moist conditions moisture, creating
a haven for its continued spread by its spores. Moss can also lead to
structural issues over periods of time. On roofs, it can trap moisture against
the tiles, causing them to degrade prematurely. On paths and patios, moss
creates a slippery surface posing a potential safety hazard, particularly when
wet. Additionally, the presence of moss can contribute to the degradation of
stone, brick and concrete by retaining moisture, which can lead to cracking and
crumbling in freezing temperatures. Managing moss on hard surfaces is often a
necessary maintenance task…
